During the last few weeks, the Hillel students have been working on a collaborative project with Wright Memorial Library called The Art of Invention. Using American masterworks of art and Dayton's history of invention, students were inspired by art and Social Studies history standards to create sculptures out of cardboard using child-safe tools. In addition, students conducted research and wrote reports about their historical inspiration.
Third grade created their sculptures with a Dayton history theme. Fourth grade's theme was Ohio history. Fifth grade's theme was United States history.
In researching their topic of flight, the third graders called the Air Force Museum and conducted an interview with an expert. Another student went to a former president's home and gathered tons of information for his sculpture and report. The students were really into their projects!
Here are their finished cardboard masterpieces!
Here are a few shots from Sunday's reception! If you were not able to make it on Sunday, don't worry! Their cardboard masterpieces displayed with the masterwork inspiration and report will be on display at Wright Memorial Library until June 1st!
